Intelligence becomes free. What stays scarce is you.
Forty thousand years ago someone pressed a hand to a cave wall and blew red earth around it. It is still there.
The first thing a human ever recorded was themselves.
Before writing, before counting, before any of it — a hand on a wall, outlined in red earth. Not a story. Not a transaction. A statement: I was here. This is me.
The pigment was ochre, dug out of the ground. It is the oldest colour humans use, and we never stopped. It is on the walls at Lascaux, in the caves at Sulawesi, in the Dunhuang murals, in the paint that dried on canvases last week.
That handprint has one property no record since has managed to keep. It belonged to the person who made it. No one held it on their behalf. No one could revoke it, monetise it, or take it away when the terms changed.
Every century the record got better. Every century it got further from you.
Writing. Ledgers. Archives. Credit files. Profiles. Feeds. Each was a real improvement in fidelity, and each moved the record one step further from the person it was about.
Today the machine remembers you. That part is solved — hundreds of millions of people talk to something that recalls their last conversation, their preferences, their name.
But look at where that memory sits. It lives on the model's side of the wall — inside the harness, next to the weights, under terms written by whoever runs it. Change provider and it does not follow. Ask for it back and there is nothing to hand over. Ask it to forget and you get a promise, not a mechanism.
It is an excellent record of you. It is not yours. That is not a bug in any one product — it is the shape of the whole layer, and no amount of making the models smarter will change it.
Not features. Just ordinary days, arranged differently.

You move cities. The new doctor, the new landlord, the new bank each ask a version of the same question. You answer once — and decide separately how much of that answer each of them ever sees.
- 02
An agent books a trip for you. It knows you do not fly before nine, that your father is diabetic, that last March was a hard month. It knows because you told it once, years ago, to something you own — not to a product that has since shut down.
- 03
A relationship ends. One instruction, and every system that inherited that chapter of you stops drawing on it. Not hidden. Not deprecated. Withdrawn — and provably so.
- 04
Before two people meet, their agents talk. Both sides are honest, because neither side had to be performed. Nobody had to write a bio.
- 05
Something is wrong in the record. You say so, and your correction outranks the inference — permanently, everywhere downstream, without arguing with a support queue.
- 06
Twenty years from now your daughter asks what you were like at her age. There is an answer. It is not a feed, and it did not belong to a company that no longer exists.
- 01
Four lines we will not trade away.
We are building it now.
Not a profile. Not an assistant. Not another place to put your life.
Something older than all three — and only now possible.
Grassland · Horse · Hand · Mark

What is shown, to whom, and for how long — decided by the one it is about.
